YOUTH FITNESS

Nobody develops young athletes better ... NOBODY.

SCROLL DOWN

YOUTH FITNESS

Nobody develops young athletes better ... NOBODY.

We want young folks to move the way we did when we were their age.

We want them to climb, kick, hit, throw, catch, sprint, jump, skip, duck, swing, flip, grasp, pull, snatch, dunk, juke, jerk, roll, clean, crawl and this list could go on. There are many reasons and excuses for the amazingly little amount of movement they do today.

Physical inactivity needs to cease. It needs to cease in our schools and in our homes. It needs to be replaced by the natural progression of movement challenges that many of us were able to enjoy.

It would be just a S L I G H T understatement to say that we are passionate about youth fitness.

Coach Milo on the ills of sugar

Passion is the lowest variable needed when you have goals as lofty as destroying obesity. Some would say you have to be nearly crazy to think you could go against the money and power of the crappy food industry (they know who they are), society's infatuation with all things skinny, insurance companies' strangle hold on health care and the intoxicating lure of inactivity - and think you could actually win.

Maybe.

But we have seen the laughter and smiles on faces of thousands of young athletes after a game of dodge ball or flag football or freeze tag. We see the exasperated grin of the 10-year-old boy who just finished pulling that weighted sled 50+ yards. We see the 4-year-old on the monkey bars, going from "Coach, are your hands close?" to "Daddy! Watch me go all the way across!"

That inspires us. That is why we are "crazy" enough to believe we can take down obesity.

Young athletes writing down the movements of a dynamic warmup.

The human body was built to thrive with movement. The life in our living wastes away without movement. Our goal is to addict children movement and get them so enthralled by the fun they have playing that the emotion carries through their adolescent and teen years into adulthood.

We believe movement is that powerful.

We have several programs geared toward our younger athletes. There is large group training, small group personal training, one-on-one training, and we have a fitness-only Independent Study Physical Education (ISPE) option for middle school and high school students in San Dieguito Union High School District and other districts that have an ISPE option. Click here for more information.

SMALL GROUPS (Teens)

SMALL GROUPS (Teens)

SMALL GROUP YOUTH PERSONAL TRAINING

The Small Group Youth Personal Training will feature 2 – 5 young athletes who will receive personalized training within a small group setting.

Athletes can get in better shape together by creating their own small group (up to 5 people) with friends, family, teammates or classmates. Athletes can also join existing groups.

These athletes will also be able to attend any of the ELEMENTS or ESSENTIALS classes and the ELITE classes, too, provided they satisfy the ELITE qualification numbers.

Each Small Group membership includes the MILO Action Plan and a “Complete Fitness & Nutritional Assessment.”

Small Group sessions are especially good for ISPE students and students who attend home schools or charter schools. Visit our ISPE page to get more information about that program.

In these small settings, the athletes will be doing similar exercises part of the time. But each athlete will have specific areas of the body that need to be worked - areas that are unique to the individual athletes. Each athlete will know those areas and will be given specific instructions as to what needs to be done to strengthen the area or correct an imbalance.

LARGE GROUPS (Teens)

LARGE GROUPS (Teens)

LARGE GROUP YOUTH PERSONAL TRAINING

Our large group classes are designed specifically to help teenaged athletes transition from their bodyweight-dominated youth exercises into more dynamic external-load resistance training geared toward their sports.

MILO sits next to a golf driving range, but we have trained athletes in: football, softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, skiing, hockey, Irish dance, lacrosse, rugby, track&field, tennis, MMA, triathlon, golf, cycling and most importantly in the game of life!

We specialize in finding out how your body moves today so we can help you move more efficiently starting today. We might not start with the sexy, cool, dynamic exercises that we see on television all the time - and we understand that, because we have lost a few clients who only wanted the sexy and cool stuff, yet their bodies were not ready for those exercises.

But that's cool, because we wholeheartedly believe in what we do. And what we do is help teenagers gain confidence in their ability to do the things they want to do when they want to do them. A confident teenager is a powerful thing!

What we do works because it produces the kind of results that keeps young folks healthy and at the top of their game.

Now, do not get us wrong. We have all of the equipment (speed gates, peg board, tractor tires, rings, radars, sleds, overspeed trainers, FMTs, superbands, plyometric boxes and more) needed to do the sexy cool exercises. And we do them all the time. We simply do not let anybody do them until their body has earned the right to get crazy. Call it a safety thing.

Just as in our regular classes, our teens are able to participate in the ELEMENTS, ESSENTIALS and ELITE classes - provided they test into the ELITE class. Check out this page for more info on the ELEMENTS, ESSENTIALS and ELITE classes.

C.L.A.Y.

C.L.A.Y.

COALITION FOR LAUNCHING ACTIVE YOUTH

The Coalition for Launching Active Youth exists to foster or help create individuals who begin to understand the complexities of the maturation process the human body undergoes during the first two decades of life, as that process relates to physical health and athleticism and, furthermore, give those persons the ability to effectively disseminate movement protocols that stay true to the developmental age of both genders and do it all in an entertaining and invigorating fashion!

Mouthful, right?

That is probably the way our hipster lawyers would want our mission statement to read - that is ... err ... umm ... if we had hipster lawyers.

English translation: we teach older folks the best ways to train younger folks.

We teach them how to skip, hop, shuffle, sprint, jump, kick, throw, catch, balance, hit, slide, climb, crawl, roll, flex, extend, squat, rotate and much more all while they think they are just playing!

The C.L.A.Y. certification will cover the biological, physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of growth. The seminar is hands-on, and during the seminar, the candidates will be taken through the classes, exercises and programming  that will enable them to confidently implement and orchestrate their youth programming within educational settings, youth centers, churches and other public and private facilities.

The Academy at Del Mar

The Academy at Del Mar

THE ACADEMY AT DEL MAR

TPI CoFounder Dave Phillips says a few words about Coach Milo.

The Academy at Del Mar is a long-term athletic development program dedicated to instilling in children a love for the game of golf, an incredible amount of athleticism and to turn these children into amazing golfers.

Fitness professionals from MILO will design and provide fitness education and conduct all fitness portions of the practice sessions for the Academy.

Practice sessions are once per week for 1.5 hours. Every fourth week the young athletes will be taken to the golf course where they put into play all of the things they have learned during the practice sessions.

The monthly membership also includes:

  • Growth tracking through Growmetry.
  • Four medium buckets of range balls.
  • Quarterly fitness and golf skills testing.
  • 10% discount on junior products at the Golf Mart in Del Mar (restrictions apply).

The typical session will begin with a thorough warmup for the all of the athletes. Then, they will be paired up and sent to different stations where they will practice individual golf skills and fitness skills. The athletes will advanced to the next station after about five minutes. There is enough time in the class for the athletes to practice and play in each station twice. They will also play a game where they compete as individuals and sometimes as teammates. It is a 90-minute class that usually leaves the young athletes wanting to stay and play longer!

Check out this link for more information about The Academy including the fee and time schedules.

ISPE

ISPE

INDEPENDENT STUDY PHYSICAL EDUCATION

MILO is excited to offer an Independent Study Physical Education (ISPE) course for students who attend the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD). Programming for other local districts will be available soon!

Our ISPE program is an amazing way to meet the SDUHSD physical education requirements. We will assess each student, and place the student on an interactive health and fitness program geared toward surpassing the limitations (others call them goals) that the students set.

  • The program is interactive in the sense that the students will learn more than they ever thought they would about their musculoskeletal selves and how they can improve their movement strength, power, speed and efficiency for any sport or activity that drives them.

  • Students and student athletes will learn about nutrition that relates specifically to them.

  • Students and student athletes will learn about creating their own physical literacy.

  • Female students and female athletes will learn how to chart and manage their hormonal cycle as it relates to nutrition, the athletic activities they do and the limitations they set.

  • Practices will be coached by MILO staff and by internationally-known experts in various health, nutrition, and fitness-related fields.

It does not matter if you are an athlete or not. It does not matter if you love sports or hate them. This class is about health and fitness. Student athletes and sports folks take this class to be better at the sports that capture their passion. Students take this class to gain confidence in an ability to make the body do what needs to be done exactly when it needs to do it.

This ISPE program is available for 7-12th graders, who will need to commit to the full semester of classes in order to earn class credit.

  • WHERE: All practices take place at our MILO facility at 15555 Jimmy Durante Blvd. in Del Mar. Practices take place in non-threatening inclement weather as well as in all the amazing weather San Diego gives us.

  • COST: $1250/semester - Can be paid in lump sum or five (5) equal payments of $250 on the first of the month with an account draft.

TPI - JR Coaching Certification

TPI - JR Coaching Certification

TPI JR COACHING CERTIFICATION

Coach Milo joins a distinguished group of professionals about 8-12 times a year to help teach Titliest Performance Institute Junior Coach seminars. The seminars represent a different approach to teaching young athletes how to prepare for all aspects of golf.

Coach Milo teams with TPI Co-founder, Dr. Greg Rose, Austrian pediatric orthopedic surgeonDr. Ernst Zwick and Australian PGA Coach of the Year, Denis McDade, to give attendees information on everything from early specialization and the brain's learning process to the relative age effect and the growth spurt to Olympic lifting and advance shot making techniques.

Covering 16 hours over two days, the seminars are a hands-on endeavor that gives golf, fitness and medical professionals a better grasp on the human maturation process as it relates to athletics, sports and especifically golf.

Since 2009, these seminars have been taught in 11 countries on five continents.

There are junior programs, not just golf, throughout the world based on the TPI method of teaching. Check out this link if you'd like to lear more about becoming a TPI Certified Junior Coach.

The certification is broken into Level 2 and Level 3. The Level 2 Junior seminar focuses on athletes from four to roughly the pre-pubertal years - or about 12 years old. Level takes the coach through the growth spurt and high school years into college. Folks, there is not a program on the planet that comes close to matching what gets taught in this class.  (Can you tell we are a little biased?!?)

Check out this link to find the TPI seminar closest to you.

A little more information about the Titleist Performance Institute:

- TPI seeks to educate golf industry professionals and the playing public on the importance of the body and how it relates to the golf swing.

- TPI believes golfers will benefit the most from a healthy and efficient body.

St. Leon-Rot, Germany

- TPI does not believe in one way to swing a club, rather in an infinite number of swing styles. But, we do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing and it is based on what the player can physically do.

- The most efficient swing is not the same for every golfer, because efficiency is unique to their body. To achieve an efficient swing, a golfer must first be screened. This screen involves an assessment of swing mechanics and biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality, current health and a client history.

- Once this screen is finished, the results are used to create a plan unique for that golfer. The plan may include fitness training, physical therapy and treatment, coaching of swing mechanics and biomechanics, nutrition, mental strategy or all of the above. A golfer will see the greatest improvement by surrounding themselves with a team of experts. Similarly, any professional in the golf industry will see their clients benefit most by themselves being part of a network or team of professionals.
